So far, so good. I'm from Los Angeles and took this bike from Dockweiler Beach to the Santa Monica Pier and back, about 24 miles total. I mostly used the throttle assist for testing and only used around 40% of the battery, finishing the ride with about 60% remaining.
The throttle is very responsive and the bike has 5 assist levels .Through the app you can switch between Class 2 and Class 3 modes. On Class 2, I was getting about 16 mph using throttle only. On Class 3, it reached around 21 mph using throttle only, and with pedaling I was able to reach about 24 mph on class 3 . For reference, I'm 5'11" and weigh around 200 lbs.
The motor feels strong and handles hills well. It struggles in very loose sand, but on hard-packed sand near the shoreline it rides surprisingly well. The bike feels sturdy, solid, and well-built.
If you're worried about the handlebars hitting your knees, don't be. The handlebars are easy to adjust, and I don't see that being a problem even for someone as tall as 6'6". The bike has plenty of room and feels comfortable for taller riders.
The paint quality is excellent and looks much better in person than in the photos. I purchased both the turquoise and red versions. The turquoise bike has plastic brake levers, while the red bike has metal brake levers. Both work well, but I prefer the metal levers on the red bike. The front headlight is very bright, although I wish it included a rear light instead of only a reflector.
Assembly was simple and took me about 15 minutes. I only had to install the handlebars, front wheel, pedals, and kickstand. The company includes all the tools needed. I recommend checking and tightening every bolt and screw before riding. One of my rear brake calipers was slightly loose out of the box, which caused a squeaking noise, but it was easy to adjust and tighten.
The only thing I didn't like was the seat. It was uncomfortable for me, so I replaced it with a different one. Other than that, I've been very happy with the bike. It looks great, rides well, and feels like a quality product for the price. I would definitely recommend it. if anything else pops up I will add to the review.
Purchased the TST Surfer for my wife. Ordered on April 4th, received it on April 10th. Got a great deal on it when comparing to the official TST website. Everything was included in the box as advertised. Assembly took around an hour. Almost everything came undamaged. The throttle came with the thumb tab broken off from shipping. Was cheap so purchased a replacement on amazon for 11 dollars and didn't bother trying to get a replacement from TST. Can complain because this bike came with hydraulic brakes that work great. My wife loves it. Plenty of power and range. As expected at this price point, the seat was extremely uncomfortable, so swapped it out for a more comfortable one. Would recommend.
